History
The following summary outlines key milestones in the development and expansion of SmartAg initiatives within IEEE and related organizations.
- In July 2017, the FoodCAS event was held in conjunction with the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society BioCAS Conference in Torino, Italy, an event that has recurred annually since.
- In December 2017, the first SmartAg Symposium took place at the Kellogg Center at Michigan State University, drawing 120 attendees from ten countries and establishing a roadmap for future work.
- This was followed in August 2018 by a SmartAg workshop at the ASABE 2018 Annual International Meeting at the Cobo Center in Detroit, Michigan. Another SmartAg workshop was held at the 2019 ASABE Annual International Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts.
- Today, many IEEE conferences include SmartAg topical special sessions, and more than twenty societies and councils are applying their technologies to the food supply chain.
